Several Multinational Companies Violate Regulations by Failing to Grant Leave During Eid al-Adha; Regulatory Authorities Order Compensatory Leave and Rectification

Nigerian regulatory authorities received complaints during Eid al-Adha from members of the public and employees of the companies involved, reporting that several multinational companies had failed to grant leave throughout the statutory public holiday and had forced employees to work as usual. The companies involved included several enterprises.

Eid al-Adha is one of Nigeria’s most important religious festivals and is also a statutory public holiday. Failing to grant leave not only violates labor regulations but also shows serious disrespect for local culture and customs. The regulatory authorities made it clear that no organization may use cross-border operations or business continuity as an excuse to disregard local laws.

The regulatory authorities have imposed penalties in accordance with the law, ordering the companies involved to immediately correct their violations, fully arrange compensatory leave in strict accordance with government public holiday standards, and carry out full-process rectification of their cross-border operational management and compliance systems.

One of the companies involved, DxTune, issued an official statement sincerely accepting the penalty, reflecting on its insufficient compliance awareness and lack of cultural respect. It pledged to strictly comply with Nigerian laws and regulations going forward, fully implement statutory holiday and compensatory leave requirements, strengthen localized management, improve employee welfare, integrate into local culture, and rebuild its image of corporate social responsibility.

The regulatory authorities finally emphasized that multinational companies should all the more serve as models of compliant operations and cultural respect. While expanding global business, they must abide by local laws, respect local customs, and protect employees’ rights and interests. The authorities will continue to take strict enforcement action against any conduct that ignores regulations and harms workers’ rights, with zero tolerance.
